In 2025 Carrier moved its entire residential line to R-454B refrigerant, retiring the familiar 24-series (24VNA6 Infinity 26, 24VNA4, 24TPA7, 24SPA6, 24SCA5, 24SCA4 — all R-410A) and replacing it with the new 26-series air conditioners and 27-series heat pumps. For an owner, three practical consequences. A new Carrier system bought in 2026 is an R-454B system, full stop. Reading a Carrier model number: the first two digits are the series generation (26 = the R-454B air conditioners), the letters carry the tier — VNA is Infinity variable-speed, TPA two-stage Performance, SPA/SCA single-stage Performance/Comfort — and a trailing "C" marks the Coastal build.
